Ahhhh, at last! An electric scooter with a detachable battery! I have often wondered why they are not all detachable. This Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter (cheekily known as the Mars Rover) is a space age looking commuter/last miler scooter/bike would not surprise me if you could add something to it to boil an egg en route. It looks like a transformer. Amazing ! It is styled in black with orange trim or white with orange trim. Sparse to the point of minimalism but with industrial chic. Do the kids care what it looks like? Heck yeah! The Airwheel E6 folds in seconds, is made from a high end powder coated magnesium alloy frame that, although light, can hold riders up to 220 pounds.
Features & Specs of the Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter
Space age styling with sturdy magnesium alloy frame; ideal for speedy last mile transportation, campus commuting or just cruising around. People take these with them on their gap year journeys as they travel safely and easily in a plane. The battery is easily detachable and that makes it even more travel friendly than other models. These days you have to declare all batteries when traveling and this is a cinch. Very easy.
Connects to a mobile app for alarm, diagnostics and so on. This feature also allows you to have music and phone in your ear as you ride.
Lithium battery which lasts around 800 charge cycles. CHeck
Fine in temperatures -10°c
The Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter features a powerful motor; front and rear spring suspensions for a comfy ride.
Top speed is up to 12 mph with at least a 15-mile range, depending on rider weight and terrain and 15° hill climbing no worries. Charge Time 200 minutes.
8″ tuff tires that make cruising over lumpy terrain quite efficient. This is a great feature. Larger tires, comfy ride, longer range.
The Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter has an electric rear brake which works fast and easily. You won’t go over the handlebars with sudden stops.
Its excellent headlight for night riding lights up the road in front and there’s a bit of arear reflector but for safety, and say you are riding the streets of Paris on the Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter, you will need a flashing red light or two.
It weighs 31.2 pounds which is a tad over the luggage allowance for one case in many planes but that’s OK as you can stash in in the oversize area but do declare the battery.
It has a fault self-diagnostic feature so trouble shooting is easy.
A built-in alarm.
It is designed and made in China.
Performance of the Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter
The X-shape makes the scooter really stable and helps as you ride over unstable ground. The speed/range ratio is about average but the foldability of this model adds to its appeal. The fact that it is actually design for a 15° gradient means you don’t have that drag factor when hill-climbing.

Safety & Comfort while riding the Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter
Add some rear lights and you are good to go. The seat is fine – maybe a little hard – but if you are using this a lot in the city or around campus, you may want to add a cover to the seat to soften it up. As the aim of a scooter is to stand and ride, I don’t think that whining about a hard seat is really an issue. But that gets down to personal preference. If it really bothers you, it is easy to switch this out totally and replace the seat with something more bottom-friendly. It certainly comes out simply (but is locked in and won’t flip out of its own accord so don’t stress over that).
As with all electrical devices, keep it clean and avoid water.
Its high end powder coated magnesium alloy frame is tough and can support up to 220 pounds or 1.5 to 2.1 metres in complete safety (5′ to 6’10) That’s awesome!
I would also recommend adding a light to the rear. The front light is fine. Recently I stumbled across this one which is a combo light and camera. You need to use the strong velcro strap (included) to mount it on the back seat post (and remember to remove it when you fold the bike up).
It’s the Fly6 [v] Rear HD camera and light and are discounted here. It illuminates the back of your scooter quite brightly and can be attached to the back seat. At the same time, you can make some of those short action films for Youtube … the battery lasts 6 hours before charging is required. It’s weather resistant with nano technology and includes an 8GB microSD card. And of course, once you go nuts filming from the back, you can save your pennies (earned on Youtube) and buy a front mounted 1080p camera/light combo such as the Fly12. Yes, I know they are designed for bikes, not scooters but hey, there’s nothing to stop you activating your creative juices and using your scooter as a really fast dolly. But it has other features – Wifi, Bluetooth connectivity, an alarm that notifies you if someone touches your scooter and much more. Scooters are made for the modern age and a Smartphone friendly way of traveling. You can share and edit video through the Cycliq Plus Smartphone app. and also add your strava metrics to the footage. I have seen kids as young as 13 handling this system and it is only a matter of time before one of them becomes an online sensation – it could be you !
Some info about the Fly12 and Fly 6 as used on a bike but you can use it even more effectively on a scooter:
Style of the Airwheel E6 foldable electric scooter
Where does a scooter become a compact bike? Not sure. The Airwheel Compact Folding Scooter Bike has the features of both. We’ve already decided this is a transformer, a space age design and that certainly makes it stand out from the pack. I like this new, adventurous style in scooter design. This one does stand out from the pack. It is only available in 2 colors. The manufacturers are known for their stability scooters and radical wheel chair designs and I do like that idea. I think that adds to the appeal. The company has branches in over a hundred countries and you can buy one to suit your local electricity W. They also will service these machines which are growing popular internationally. In Asia and Europe, you see these on the streets everywhere. It’s a growing trend in the USA.

Similar scooters to the Airwheel E6
There is a growing number of x-shaped scooter/bike crossovers. It seems to be the way to go for last-milers and campus use.
While these are not strictly aimed at small children and not toys, check the size recommendations and decide for yourself. They are at the upper third end of price range and a responsible child could handle this say around 10 years old as long as they knew how to keep it secure and not push the speed to fast. This one does stand out from the pack as it has a distinctive industrial design and also is created by known mobility and commuter vehicle engineers in China. Highly recommended for anyone over 13. Very light at 31.2 pounds and most people over 13 could carry this, folded, around campus or streets.
